Family friend Duke had a birthday on March 2 also.
Demitrius calls Duke his "Dude" and wanted to make sure that they got to sing happy birthday to him. So he took a piece of the cake and put a candle in it and had everyone sing to his Dude when he came into the room. Happy Birthday Duke
